Kevin's Chess Set

My son likes chess, so I decided to make him a set for his 20th birthday. It was rather tedious turning the pawns, but the rest of the pieces were fun. I used bloodwood for one set of pieces, and birdseye maple for the other. The board squares were made of the same woods, with red oak splines between each row. The entire board was framed with shaped goncalo alves (tiger wood), and mounted on a red oak carrying case. The pieces are housed in foam-lined, individually removable inserts that protect the pieces during play and transport.
